The Indian Student's Guide to ECTS Mapping

A step-by-step strategic blueprint to convert your Indian academic effort into the German credit standard.

1. Gather Your Evidence

Collect all Semester Marksheets, your Official Degree Syllabus (the detailed PDF from university website), and your Final Degree Certificate.

2. Find 'Lecture Hours'

Look at your Syllabus/Timetable for 'Contact Hours', 'L-T-P' (Lecture-Tutorial-Practical), or 'Teaching Hours'. E.g., '4L' means 4 Lecture hours/week.

3. Estimate 'Self-Study'

Be honest. For every 1 hour of lecture, how many hours did you spend on assignments, projects, and revising? A 1:1.5 or 1:2 ratio is common for core subjects.

4. Apply the Formula

Use the calculator above: (Weekly Lecture Hrs + Weekly Self-Study Hrs) × Weeks in a Semester (usually 15) ÷ 30 = Your ECTS Value.

5. Find German Req.

Go to the German university's program page. Look for 'Admission Requirements' or 'Modulhandbuch' (Module Handbook). Note required ECTS for each subject area (e.g., '18 ECTS in Math').

6. Map & Compare

Create a table. List your subjects with your calculated ECTS. Group them to see if you meet the German university's subject-specific ECTS total.
